Happy 21st!

Our daughter had her 21st birthday earlier in the month and she wanted a family tea party.  As we don't actually drink tea, we had herbals teas, and elderflower cordial, plus all the trimmings of afternoon tea - scones, cucumber sandwiches and of course cake!

It was a fun afternoon and we enjoyed the company of friends & family.

It hardly seems possible that my "baby" is 21!  Where does the time go?!  Happy 21st Rebekah!

I'd forgotten how relaxing it is!

In 1979 my husband (then fiance) left for Finland for a two year mission for our church.  The day after he left, I started to crochet this bedspread.  It took me six months to complete as obviously I didn't work on it non stop.  For many years it was on our bed, but it has now been brought out of storage and adorns the bed in our guest room.  I have done the odd small crochet project throughout the years, but nothing of this scale.  As I have been working on the baby blanket I have remembered not only how relaxing crochet is, but how wonderful the item
feels in your hands as it grows!  It's amazing what you can create out of a ball of wool!  This bedspread will be a family heirloom.  So I guess with three children, I'd better start making some more stuff!  Time to leaf through the patterns for the next project after the blanket.

Have a lovely day!

A new little baby soon

Our middle son and his wife are expecting their first child - our first grandchild, at the end of March, so needless to say, we are getting pretty excited around here!  Last night I started to crochet a baby blanket for them.  It is growing nicely as I was up last night with a coughing fit and didn't want to wake everyone so I came downstairs to the family room and worked on it.  This part is the middle section and it will have a very large scalloped edge.  It should be really pretty when it's done.

I love the way crochet grows so quickly.  I will keep you posted as to its progress.  Enjoy the rest of the evening.

Getting to know you

Welcome and thanks for dropping by.  This blog will be a kind of journal of my everyday life and experiences.  My husband bought me a sewing machine for Christmas and I plan on making a few creations this year which will be shown here as they emerge.  I  also love to crochet and cross stitch, so let's see what the new year brings.
Here's my new little baby - I think we are going to get along really well!
Have a lovely day!
